Inspired by an unexpected encounter with a photo of a corpse, as well as a foray into her own family history, Endean’s figurative prints explore themes of transience, impermanence and transformation.
From within the convention of portraiture, the prints depict departed lives, both real and invented. The subjects confront the passage of their lives: some pensive, some puzzled. Some subjects undergo gradual disintegration, while others imagine ascent into the heavens or escape through willful transformation.
