Many of my prints are monoprints. Monoprinting is a form of printmaking that has lines or images that can only be made once, unlike most printmaking, where imagery can be repeated exactly over numerous prints. A monoprint is a unique print made by layering images via multiple runs through a press.
I use a combination of painting directly on plexiglass plates and making permanent marks on the plates using etching tools. These plates are layered in various combinations, resulting in a series of related but unique prints.
These images illustrate the various stages in creating this series of mono prints. The initial image is painted directly onto plexiglass and printed. Then additional detail is added via a plate that has been been etched into with various tools. Additional layers of painting and etching are added as needed to complete the piece.
